Duo Cubano
Gainesville’s 352walls/Gainesville Urban Art Initiative and Bulla Cubana, the Cuban arts and culture festival retained a talented duo of Cuban-born artists to create a spectacular mural to commend the recent change in diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba.
Leading the 352walls project was internationally-acclaimed artist Juan Travieso, who was raised in the U.S. and travels the world creating murals and other works of art. Joining Travieso on the artwork was Miguel Machado, who has lived in Havana, Cuba all his life and has been singled out as one of the most talented emerging visual artists of his generation. Both are successful millennials who are passionate about street art. Their creation complements 352walls’ mission to position Gainesville as a vibrant cultural destination, stimulate urban renewal, foster tourism and economic development, beautify the urban landscape, boost community pride and serve as a platform for urban art studies.
