Al Maser

352walls and Santa Fe College of Fine Arts present renowned Irish muralist MASER: 352walls/Gainesville Urban Art Initiative and Santa Fe College Department of Fine Arts present Irish-born graffiti artist Al MASER.  The acclaimed international muralist will create a mega- work on the exterior walls and structures of the Fine Arts Department starting November 10–20, weather permitting.

Al Hester began painting on the streets of Dublin in 1995 under the moniker ‘MASER’. He was given his name by mates at a local pub when he was fifteen. Soon after, he earned the respect of other graffiti artists for his unique abstracted, bright and colorful style. After studying Visual Communication in his hometown, he went on to establish himself as one of Europe’s leading urban artists.

Currently MASER’S works demonstrate ordinary techniques while emphasizing simplicity of form.  Combining the geometric style of his urban work with his formal art education, Maser creates works that build on his graffiti foundation; exploring a figurative aesthetic that relates to both 20th century artists and spray cans.  In recent years MASER has explored new mediums and produced studio works on canvas, video and large-scale 3D installations, woodblock prints and copper plated etchings.
